MARGAO: Goa Women’s Forum (GWF) on Wednesday urged the Director of Panchayats and Directorate of Municipal Administration to conduct an outreach programme in Goa to help out widows.
Addressing media persons in Margao, Lorna Fernandes, GWF president said, “To know the social and financial situations of widows during this pandemic an outreach programme is needed.”
“On the occasion of the International Widows Day, we have urged the government to conduct an outreach programme to help out the widows in Goa. This programme should be in collaboration with women and child development”, she said.
Lorna said, “In this Covid pandemic many women have succumbed to the infection. We don’t know the social and financial conditions of widows. All this information should be collected to help them out. Through the outreach programme, a helpline and other important numbers could be given to them. Awareness amongst them can be created so that they go to the right place for help”, she added.
