MAPUSA: Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte has criticised the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) and the consultant for not conducting a proper study before starting the High Court building project since the project is blocking the traditional access to one of the wards in Penha de Franca panchayat.
Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte said, “The consultant has not taken local panchayat into confidence and also has not studied the impact on the water supply to the local residents once the project becomes operational.”
The Porvorim MLA was addressing the media after going through the presentation on the project which was given by consultant firm LKS Consultants Private Limited on Wednesday.
“After going through the presentation by the consultant, we realised that they have not done their home work properly and GSIDC has blindly accepted all that the consultant has submitted. The consultant should have spoken to the local panchayat and considered aspects like density of the population, traffic circulation, water requirement and others,” Khaunte said.
During the presentation, MLA also noticed that there was a road being constructed parallel to the National Highway, which leads to a private plot.“We are curious to know why GSIDC is interested in this access road which is leading to a private plot,” Khaunte addedand said he will investigate into the matter.
Khaunte demanded a 5-metre access road to the ward of Penha de Franca panchayat so that two vehicles can move at any given time.
Khaunte also said that the project should not pull water from existing resources.
“State government can complete a 15 MLD water treatment plant and then source water from there,” the Porvorim MLA said.
Khaunte also said that the locals should be taken into confidence while deciding on relocation of the Chapel, which is existing at the site.
