MARGAO: The ad-hoc committee headed by Margao MLA Digambar Kamat on Saturday decided to ask the Margao Municipal Council to conduct a survey of the number of households in the Municipal jurisdiction and invite bids for door-to-door waste.
The ad-hoc committee, which has been constituted by the High Powered Committee headed by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, also resolved to overcome the shortcomings in the door-to-door waste collection underway at Madel ward and extend the exercise to Aquem.
Besides Kamat, the meeting was attended by Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardessai, Margao Municipal Chairperson Arthur D’Silva, Fomento Chief Executive Officer Sridhar Kamat, Chief Officer Deepali Naik, Sanitary Inspector Viraj Arabekar, Municipal engineer Diniz D’Mello and others.
After the meeting, the Margao MLA told the media that the Committee reviewed the situation on the garbage front, with focus on segregation and door-to-door waste collection.
He said that the Committee has asked the Margao civic body to carry out a detailed survey of the number of households, which would help the body before starting the door-to-door waste collection. “As per the earlier decision taken by the ad-hoc committee to outsource door-to-door waste collection, the meeting further decided that the Margao civic body should call for bids to implement the concept in the commercial town,” he said.
