PANJIM: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Amit Patkar accused the BJP leadership of constantly pressurising Congress MLAs with increasing offers to switch sides.

Patkar, who returned to Goa after attending `Bharat Jodo Yatra’ at Delhi, said that he discussed the organisational matters and the ongoing political crisis in the State after the visit of AICC observer and MP Mukul Wasnik.

He said that the BJP offer to Congress MLAs to switch sides is increasing everyday and the ongoing happenings are an attempt to kill democracy. “At the national level Indian rupee is falling while in the State the value of rupee is increasing,” he remarked.

The GPCC president demanded that the BJP should respect healthy opposition, respect democracy and the mandate of the people of Goa and stop luring opposition MLAs with money offers.

“I am confident and sure that our MLAs will not succumb to such offers. People have reposed their faith in them and elected them,” he added.

Patkar further informed that the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) will meet again next week and elect the leader by consensus.
