PANJIM: The Congress on Tuesday accused the Kadamba Transport Corporation of fraud claiming it of holding back almost Rs 3.5 crore from the loan accounts of employees even after deducting it from their salaries. Accusing officials of making merry with the money, it alleged that the corporation was misusing the money and spending it on frivolous activities.
According to Congress spokesperson Sunil Kawthankar, the corporation had deducted the amounts from the salaries of employees for the last four months but it has not been deposited into the loan accounts of those who had taken loans form the employees’ credit cooperative society.
“Congress demands that the money be returned to the employees immediately,” Kawthankar said. He also alleged that there were moves to target the people, saying that this was not a political issue but an issue of poor people.
There are 1,800 employees and many have taken loans from the society. However, though the amounts are being deducted from the salaries for the past four months as installment, it has not been deposited in the loan accounts and the employees are getting notices saying that they are defaulters.
The amount which was deducted was around Rs 85 lakh per month. The employees are presently on hunger strike to protest this illegality.
“What is going on is very bad for the cooperative society. Also the employees that are suffering are drivers, cleaners.., poor people. This is fraud. While poor, are suffering officials are making merry,” Kawthankar alleged.
