Cong accuses Power Minister of representing casino lobby

PANJIM: Congress has accused Power Minister Nilesh Cabral of representing the casino lobby for allegedly demanding the resignation and replacement of Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Girish Chodankar.
GPCC general secretary Amarnath Panjikar said that by attacking the party president, Cabral had admitted that Girish is a thorn in allowing casinos to run their illegalities blatantly in collusion with the government.
“We are fully aware that casinos have become a sensitive subject to BJP leaders and they get super-hyper if anyone speaks against it. It is not surprising that BJP leaders are not willing to listen to any criticism against the casinos as they are their ATMs and disturbing them in any way will shake their coffers,” Panjikar stated.
He said it is abundantly clear that Cabral is speaking the language of casino operators who are hell bent to remove GPCC president from the post as they find him as a thorn in their way.
He said, “But his (Cabral’s) statement also reflects the frustration of the ruling party, due to which the BJP is telling the opposition party who should run it. The BJP leaders are trying to intrude into the affairs of opposition. It is a blatant abuse of democracy. They feel that they have a right over everything, even the functioning of the opposition party.”
Panjikar said the Congress would continue to fulfil its Constitutional obligations as a constructive Opposition.
