PANJIM: Congress has alleged that the CM Sawant-led govt is neglecting the education sector in Goa.
GPCC general secretary Amarnath Panjikar raised concerns about how students pursuing professional education within and outside the State are facing problems as the Goa Education Development Corporation (GEDC) has failed to disburse the fees under the interest free loan scheme for the last three semesters.
“All the students who have taken admission into professional colleges and had sought the government’s help under the interest free education loan scheme of the government are now facing crisis as the GEDC has not released the fees amount to the educational institutions,” he said.
Panjikar stated that the fees of the two semesters of last year and the current semester have not been released by GEDC. “Colleges have stopped the students from completing their admission formalities for this year. The students are now forced to drop out for the year as most of these students seeking loans from the government come from poor backgrounds”, he added.
He further said that parents are not in a position to pay the huge sums of money as fees.
Stating that the CM is overburdened with too many portfolios under him, Panjikar said, “The education ministry is being neglected and there is total injustice meted out to the department. The CM as the Education Minister needs to pay attention to the many pending issues including infrastructure of schools, recruitment of teachers and regularisation of teachers.”
