Cong alleges govt trying to make big deal on sale of agri land

Questions the delay in issuing notification

PANJIM: Taking strong objection to circular by office of the State Registrar, the opposition Congress on Tuesday said that the government was trying to make a big deal before rules of ‘The Goa Restrictions on Transfer of Agricultural Land Act 2023 are notified.

The circular reads, “The government has enacted The Goa Restrictions on Transfer of Agricultural Land Act 2023 (Con Act 18 of 2023) (17.04.2023) and the rules are not yet notified. Till the notification of the rules the Sub Registrars shall not refuse registration of any such land mentioned in the above Act, nor shall demand any proof of being an agriculturist from any buyer as they are neither empowered to do so under the Registration Act 1908 or the above mentioned Act.”

Objecting the move of government, the Congress Media Department President Amarnath Panjikar questioned about the delay of notification. “It seems BJP leaders are trying to make big deal by helping someone to purchase agriculture land, otherwise such circular would not have come in haste,” he said.

“I am shocked to read this circular as it relaxes the rule, which says buyer should be agriculturist. It seems BJP leaders have made a deal with non-agriculturist and to favour him this circular is issued. We will not allow to sell our Goa like this,” Panjikar said condemning the Act of the BJP government to allow such practices of scams and corruptions.
