Cong: Appoint panchayat secretaries forthwith

PANJIM: Raising the question of many of Goa’s village panchayats functioning without a permanent secretary, All India Congress Committee (AICC) Secretary Girish Chodankar demanded that appointment to the posts be made immediately.

The posts had received 500 applications when advertised for in 2014. Applicants had to undergo an 85 mark written test and a 15 mark oral test that were held in February and November respectively.
“So far there has been no declaration of the results and this has created a situation among those that had applied. We demand that the results be declared immediately and if they don’t then they need to give an explanation as to why they weren’t released,” said Chodankar.
He added that while the current government had promised zero tolerance to corruption and creation of new industries and jobs, they had in practice not fulfilled any of these promises.
Adding to the ongoing Louis Berger bribery scam, Congress Secretary Durgadas Kamat said there was need for the Sewerage Corporation of Goa to be investigated.
“Congress demands that the files of the Sewerage Corporation of Goa be seized and investigated. There should be a look into the tenders issued in the last three years,” said Kamat adding that the government and police should act within ten days.
