MARGAO, JAN 23
Congress leaders on Sunday stoutly defended Home Minister Ravi Minister, who is in the eye of the storm over police-drugs nexus, even as the Home Minister vowed to carry on with the campaign against drugs in the state.
At the Margao Block Congress workers convention, chief minister gave a clean chit to his second in command, saying the Home Minister is good work and called for extending all out support to him at this juncture.
“Ravi is one man who has made every effort to effectively tackle the law and order situation. To make allegations is simple. But, he is the man who has worked for the Bahujan Samaj and the down trodden. He is going good work. We have to support him all in his endeavour”, Kamat asserted.
PWD Minister Churchill Alemao said that some vested interests even within the Congress are targeting the Home Minister. “At the Congress meeting, I asked MP Francisco Sardinha whether there are no rapes taking place in Delhi. And, whether the Chief Minister or the Home Minister are telling someone to commit rapes”, he said.
Alemao said that drugs was going on in the state, but there’s a hue and cry now since the Home Minister has stopped their haftas, adding that he would not sit quite and watch if the Chief Minister and Home Minister are unnecessarily targeted by these vested interests.
GPCC General secretary Vishnu Surya Wagh also defended the Home Minister saying that Ravi is a man who has tirelessly worked for the Bahujan Samaj and the downtrodden. “Unlike many others, Ravi is not a tainted man. He has the blessings of the people, especially the downtrodden”, Wagh added.
In his address, the Home Minister said that he has given the green signal for the CBI inquiry into the drugs cases since November last year. “Let the CBI Inquiry come out with the true facts. People whose haftas has stopped are frustrated now, but there will not be any compromise on the seizure of drugs”, he said.
He demanded to know whether the police are right in effecting drug seizure or arrest the peddlers, saying the government is very much concerned with the future generations.
The Home Minister gave an advise or two for the media calling upon members of the Fourth Estate to bring truth before the people and not just propaganda.
