MARGAO: The very character of State of Goa has changed in the last 32 years since it attained Statehood thanks to the power sharing between the Congress and BJP that has ruled Goa, said Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Goa Convener Elvis Gomes, on Wednesday.
Addressing the AAP volunteers on the eve of Goa Statehood Day, Elvis said the fire at Sonsoddo is one example of how the Congress as well as the BJP has not given the required attention it deserved and today is reduced to “mere filth and nauseating odour”.
He said cautioned volunteers to be aware of the manner in which the Congress and BJP hoodwinks people with false propaganda on the basis of religion or caste.
“The just concluded Lok Sabha elections showed us how people were misled regarding threat to religion due to which the electorate did not bother to check the performance of the candidate with regards to providing educational or employment opportunities,” he said.
“58 years after liberation and 32 years after Statehood, we are left with a degraded environment, devastated hills cutting, uncultivated fields kept on the conversion block, garbage mounds and sewage run offs that have poisoned water bodies, coal dust and depleted ground water table, all in the name of development,” said Elvis.
