PANJIM: The Congress block committees have urged All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary and Goa desk in charge Digvijay Singh to take disciplinary action against Curtorim MLA Alexio Reginaldo Lourenco for his recent anti-party statement.
In a letter to Singh, Congress block presidents have stated that the MLA’s recent media outburst claiming that the party executive committee meeting held on July 18 was ‘stage managed’, is an insult and humiliation to the block committees that are working hard to build up the party and win the 2017 elections.
“We condemn his statement and hence file this form of complaint against the MLA for questioning our integrity and integrity of all blocks and leaders,” the complaint stated.
The committees have demanded that an inquiry be conducted through a disciplinary committee against Lourenco and strict action be taken so that no individual breaches protocol and compromises the integrity, discipline and reputation of the party.
They said that if the MLA had any issues in regards to the alliance, he should have discussed this with Singh and other Congress leaders and sorted it out.
A day after the State executive committee meeting, Lourenco at a media briefing had slammed State party President Luizinho Faleiro for trying to hijack the meeting through his senior leaders.
The block members have also questioned Lourenco’s interest in demanding a grand alliance, wherein during the coordination committee meeting chaired by Singh where the decision was taken to go alone, the MLA had not raised the proposal for an alliance or opposed the move to contest all 40 seats.
“We want to know why Lourenco is pushing for an alliance with a party which is newly born and registered. What is his interest in such an alliance?” they said. “Also, why is he openly criticizing and ridiculing the statement made by our AICC general secretary regarding Congress contesting all 40 seats,” the complaint asked.
