PANJIM: Contradicting AICC Secretary Dr Chellakumar, Congress Spokesman Sunil Kawthankar has said that the Party firmly believes that the Pakistan-based terrorist organisation Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) carried out the Pulwama terror attack on CRPF personnel killing 40 of them.
Addressing the media on Wednesday, Chellakumar indirectly questioned whether the Pulwama attack was really perpetrated by the terrorists, saying, “They (government) have identified the jawans’ bodies, but where is the body of the terrorist? So far, they have not been able to show the terrorist’s body to the people.”
However, contradicting Chellakumar, Kawthankar issued a press statement on Thursday, stating that the Congress Party does not have even the slightest of doubt that JeM carried out the Pulwama terror attack.
“And we strongly stand by our Armed Forces and their actions in the interest of National security,” he said.
“We also salute the bravery and valour of our Air Force for their action against terrorist camps in Pakistan on February 26. We also pray for the safe return of our captured IAF pilot,” the spokesman said.
Chellakumar was strongly criticised and condemned by BJP, Shiv Sena who sought clarification from Congress President Rahul Gandhi on his party’s stand on the issue.
