PERNEM: Senior Congress party leaders have credited Mandrem unit President Narayan Redkar with having strengthened the party in the constituency dominated by Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, until recently.
Speaking to Herald, Redkar said, “I am thankful to our party President Luizinho Faleiro for encouraging and motivating me to make Congress a strong party in Mandrem.”
He said that for many years the opposition parties had called the Mandrem unit of Congress as a divided house, whose leaders were fighting among them. “But when the results are out, they will be proven wrong,” he said adding, “With the motivation and support of Faleiro, I and my team worked against the chief minister in his own constituency without any fear.”
Redkar blamed previous leaders for the dismal performance of Congress in previous elections in Mandrem, saying, “Our previous leaders had never bothered about Congress in Mandrem; they never listen to our views and problems.”
However, after Faleiro took over the reins of the party, Redkar said, he heard views of the grassroots workers and helped them to take the party to every house in Mandrem constituency.
Crediting Faleiro with forming mahila mandals and youth wing in the constituency, Redkar said, formation of these units strengthened the party “As these organisations gave responsibilities to the volunteers, they worked hard for the party day and night.”
“Ramakant Khalap, Sachin Parab, Babi Bagkar, Sangeeta Parab and Dayanand Sopte are in the party for years; all these leaders wanted to contest the election, but it was the party that decided who should be given the ticket,” he said.
