MARGAO: Congress on Friday bounced back on the attempt of Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant who tried to take credit for the commissioning of five WiFi hotspots in five panchayat areas for online education of students.
The Chief Minister had tweeted of announcement of WiFi hotspots for the students in five rural gram panchayats in the State.
Congress Vice President Sankalp Amonkar replying to the Chief Minister announcement said, “Don’t take credit. It is our Congress leader Digambar Kamat who woke the BJP Goa government from slumber to remind that Intranet facility gifted to Goa by then Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singhji has already reached every panchayat when you were dreaming of making fortunes from the mobile towers.”
Congress women leader and Benaulim Zilla Panchayat candidate Royla Fernandes also reminded the Chief Minister that the Intranet facility was long installed by the Congress.
She said that the Congress always has a vision for the betterment of India.
It may be recalled that the fibre optic cable based Intranet facility was laid across the State and network connectivity had reached every panchayat when the Congress government under Digambar Kamat was in power. The then Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh had gifted the said project to Goa as a pilot project. Incidentally, after the BJP government came to power in 2012, the said project was put in abeyance.
“It is now after the breakout of COVID-19 pandemic, as the need has arisen for effective and uninterrupted network connectivity that the Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat reminded the current government of the facility already available,” reminded Congress.
