MARGAO: Congress on Friday said that the party would take a decision to expel Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho from the party and dared the MLA to resign from the party and win the election on the BJP ticket.
Addressing the media, party general secretary Joe Dias has said the Congress party will come down heavily on MLAs and leaders indulging in anti-party activities. “Mauvin is free to leave the party as he had left the party twice. If not, the Congress leadership will initiate action against him by expelling him for anti-party activities”, Joe added.
PCC vice-president Menino Da Silva said Mauvin is taking the constituents of Dabolim for granted by saying that that he is supporting the BJP for the development of his constituency. “Mauvin’s interest lies with his special leave petition in the power scam case which is pending before the Supreme Court. In this case, Mauvin was arrested in may 2001 by none other by the then Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, who is being praised by Mauvin today”, Menino said.
“It is a desperate attempt by Mauvin to accuse the Congress party and its leadership for his survival. He should have been grateful to the party for his position in politics, but his treacherous act only shows his true character”, he added.
Replying to a question, the duo said the Congress party will not be affected by the expulsion of Babush Monserrate and Mauvin Godinho. “No doubt, the Congress party numbers in the Assembly will come down to seven, but the party will build up the
party ahead of the 2017 Assembly election”, both Joe and Menino said.
