PANJIM: A day after the Chief Minister accused certain elected members from the panchayats and municipalities of being involved in manipulating the funds allotted for garbage management, the Congress on Sunday dared him to disclose the names of all such elected representatives and questioned the government failure to act against them.
In a press statement, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee
President Amit Patkar condemned the Chief Minister’s charges and alleged that the statement exposes the very failure of the BJP-led government on garbage management.
He also demanded that the government should immediately release a White Paper on garbage management.
“I strongly condemn the statement of the Chief Minister who has alleged that the local panchayat and municipal council members are involved in corruption related to waste management. I dare the Chief Minister to disclose the names of all such members, and also explain why his government did not act against them in last 10 years,” he said.
Patkar said that the BJP government looted the State treasury under the guise of garbage management and is now blaming the panchayat members and municipality councillors.
“If there is corruption, then let the CM clarify why Tourism Department is still continuing with the beach cleaning work when there is a separate department called Goa Waste Management Corporation,” he said.
“The garbage collection contract of the national highway has also turned out to be a big scam with one of the contractor looting the State treasury is a BJP office bearer. The documents prove that crores of rupees are paid to these contractors without monitoring the work,” Patkar added.
