Cong demands apology from CM for ‘sexist’ comments on nurses

PANJIM: The Congress party on Wednesday demanded a public apology from Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar for his alleged sexist comments on the striking nurses attached with 108 emergency services. Additionally, the Congress party has decided to gift a mirror to Chief Minister to see his complexion, every time he moves out of the house.
“The chief minister’s statement is highly condemnable. Is the worth of a woman considered by the colour of her skin? This thinking is shameless,” Congress General Secretary Agnelo Fernandes told media Wednesday afternoon.
Demanding that the chief minister should immediately tender an apology for such a statement, Fernandes urged women’s groups to come forward and protest. “The statement shows the insensitive approach of BJP government towards women, who are currently reeling under insecurity, in general,” he said.
One of the nurses, who was part of protestors, had alleged that Parsekar had made sexist remarks when they met him in Ponda, where he said that they should not be sitting in the sun as they will turn dark and it would be difficult for them to get suitable bridegrooms.
Meanwhile, the Congress has also condemned the statement and demanded apology from Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Giriraj Singh for his racist remark on Congress party president Sonia Gandhi.
Congress spokesperson Sunil Kawthankar said that BJP and its ministers are making a habit of making such outlandish and condemnable comments. “It is not just derogatory to Sonia Gandhi, but to all women of this country. I think it has become a habit with BJP ministers to make these kinds of outlandish remarks,” he said.
