PANJIM: The Congress on Monday demanded an inquiry through Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the beach cleaning contract awarded to Drishti Lifesaving Pvt Ltd, failing which it threatened to move High Court for necessary directions to the Government.
Addressing media persons, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Girish Chodankar said the contract to the firm was renewed nine times from December 2018 to July 15, 2019, with government paying an amount of Rs 2.62 crore per day (106 days). “We demand that an inquiry through CBI be conducted into the beach cleaning contract as recommended by Lokayukta,” Chodankar demanded.
The Congress president also objected to awarding the new tender to Karnataka Commercial and Industrial Pvt Ltd at an estimated cost of Rs 38 crore stating they have no experience in comprehensive management of beach cleaning. He demanded the immediate scrapping of the contract.
