PANJIM: The Congress party Thursday demanded that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar should revoke the licence of MV Horseshoe which houses the Deltin Royale off-shore casino and institute a CBI inquiry into what he called ‘scams’ related to the matter.
Speaking at a press conference at Congress House, spokesman Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco alleged that the shares of Delta Corp Company ~ which owns the vessel ~ rose despite the overall Sensex dropping by 11 per cent after the news that the permissions were to be given filtered out.
“The shares of Delta Corp Company rose by 43 per cent from Rs 44 to Rs 63, which increased the market value of Delta Corp by Rs 431 crore, in a short span of 25 days,” he said.
“Normally when Sensex falls, the company shares also tend to fall. During the above period (July 2013), the Sensex fell by 11 per cent from 20,000 to 17,800. Yet Delta Corp shares rose,” Reginaldo added. He pointed out to government’s earlier assurance that it would refuse permission for the off-shore casino.
He alleged a conspiracy saying some insider leaked the information to a selected few that permission would be granted so that they could buy shares.
Reginaldo said the party would write to the finance minister and SEBI about the scam, running into several crores of rupees.
