PANJIM: The Opposition Congress Party on Thursday demanded that the Bharatiya Janata Party government should immediately stop casinos, night clubs and State borders till the rising COVID-19 situation subsides.
Pointing to the government’s decision to allow casinos to operate during night curfew, Panjim Block Congress Committee Convenor and Corporation of the City of Panaji Corporator Joel Andrade demanded to know whether the government is scared of the casino industry.
“Why government is not closing casinos, night clubs and or borders failing which it will be difficult to tackle the rising COVID-19 situation?,” he asked.
Congress Spokesman Tulio de Souza demanded that the government should stop drawing political mileage of people’s misery, pain and distress. Vaccination is not an “utsav” and it is sad reflection of reality of the day the people are going through.
To a question, de Souza said that the Congress Party is fully ready to work with the government at every block level to see that every Goan gets vaccinated.
De Souza further pointed out that Congress MP Rahul Gandhi had written to the Prime Minister to open vaccination to everyone who needs it.
De Souza said that the order and office memorandum issued by the State government has no clarity, no direction and will have no impact on the pandemic.
He said that the oxygen cylinders supply was dwindling while the government was charging 12 per cent GST on life saving oxygen providing relief to COVID-19 patients.
De Souza also wanted to know whether Goa has got share of Rs 20 lakh crore stimulus package announced by the Prime Minister to tackle the impact of Coronavirus and how much State government spend on providing COVID related infrastructure.
