Cong demands CM’s resignation for failing to address issues

PANJIM: Congress party on Wednesday demanded resignation of Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant accusing him of failing to address the crucial issues concerning State including resumption of mining activities, Mhadei River diversion and unemployment amongst others. 
Addressing the media persons, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Girish Chodankar said that the Sawant led government has been insensitive towards the issues raised by them being principal Opposition party due to which there is large scale discontent amongst the people.
 “Government has become insensitive. Even if you raise sensitive issues, they are not addressed to. We condemn the inaction of the government. People are unhappy with the government. Government led by Sawant is a complete failure,” he charged. 
“If Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant cannot handle the affairs of the State, then he should step down from the post immediately. He should take the responsibility for all the failures of the government,” Congress leader added. 
Chodankar said that the government is accountable to the people in the democratic set up, and hence, State government has to be responding to the issues raised by main Opposition party.
He said that government has failed to work out solution to the mining industry, which is suffering since 2012 and as a result lakhs of people are unemployed. Rising unemployment, economic slowdown, declining tourism, garbage menace, increasing liability, are some of the other crucial issues, where government has failed.
He said that government’s apathy and insensitivity led to Central government allowing Karnataka to diver Mhadei River water. 
Pointing to recent incident wherein an Uttar Pradesh conman visited the State enjoyed hospitality as State guest, Congress leader said that State internal security is also under threat. “Also, the attack on police shows that law and order situation is out of control,” he added. 
Meanwhile, Chodankar shoot back at Sawant over his statement blaming former prime minister late Jawaharlal Nehru for delaying Goa’s liberation. Congress leader has opined chief minister to visit library and study book on Goa Liberation.
