PANJIM: The Congress on Monday submitted a memorandum to the office of Director General of Police (DGP) demanding an impartial inquiry into the incidents of violence occurred at Vasco and Quepem to give justice to victims.
“The recent incident of violence that occurred at Vasco exposed how things are twisted by the ruling BJP to benefit supporters and to harass the opponents. It is expected from the police to conduct a free and fair inquiry into the matter and take an appropriate action in the matter,” reads the memorandum.
Addressing the mediapersons, Calangute MLA Michael Lobo said that it is wrong to give political colours to the incidents which have no links with politics. The students who have no role in these incidents are unnecessarily harassed and summoned for investigation. Police should stop playing with the future of the students at the behest of BJP.”
Adding, Lobo alleged that the police have failed to act impartially and that the investigation carried out was as per the desire and direction of the leaders of BJP.
“The BJP leaders are trying to derive political dividends out of these incidents,” Lobo added.
“In Vasco case it is depicted that Mayekar family is BJP supporter and Bhagat family is Congress supporter. Thus the matter is portrayed as a fight between Congress and BJP. The fight was actually erupted out of their enmity,” Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar added.
The Congress leaders alleged that a person was beaten and threatened to kill by the BJP supporters for bursting crackers and that the BJP supporters have started to misuse power.
