PANJIM: The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) on Friday filed a complaint with the Vigilance Department demanding probe into alleged Public Works Department (PWD) job scam involving former Minister and MLA Nilesh Cabral and other officials.
In his complaint, GPCC general secretary SrinivasKhalap has said that the complaint is with regards to alleged job recruitment concerning 350 posts of junior engineers and technical assistants in the PWD, which was highlighted by media.
Khalap has mentioned that a demand was put forth to the candidates amounting to anything between Rs 30 lakh to Rs 40 lakh for each post, which indicated that the selection was done in an opaque manner and the jobs were ‘sold’.
“The reported delay of almost five months in declaring the results of the examination of the recruitment of junior engineers and technical assistants clearly indicates ulterior and malafide intentions of negotiating in the cash for jobs. The very fact of sacking of PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral from the Cabinet confirms the allegations levelled about the job scam and bribery involved,”Khalap said.
He said considering the serious nature of corruption, the Congress demands a thorough enquiry in the entire scam involving the former minister, senior officials of PWD, including OSD and other staff assisting the minister.
