PANJIM: The Goa Congress unit has demanded resignation of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Hathras case, wherein a 19-year-old girl was brutally gang-raped and murdered.
Addressing a press conference, senior Congress leader Shambhu Bhau Bandekar condemned the gang-raped and also the manner in which the police have acted in the case.
“The Hathras case is devastating incident which tells us the state of law and order in Uttar Pradesh. Yogi Adityananth should immediately resign taking the responsibility of his government’s failure to curb such heinous crimes” Bandekar said.
He charged that the police delayed registering the crime of gang-rape and more so the dead body of the 19-year-old girl should have been handed over to the parents but the police refused to do so and burnt her body at 2.30 am on their own, thus destroying evidence. Bandekar alleged that since 2019, the crimes against women in India have increased by 7 per cent.
He said that States like UP should adopt the Chatrapati Shivaji model who had utmost respect for women and was a pioneer in protecting their rights.
“The government is not doing enough to curb the violence against women in India,” he alleged.
