Cong denounces comedy show targeting Christians

MARGAO: Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco has denounced the comedy show by Farah Khan featuring Raveena Tandon and Bharti Singh that sought to denigrate the term “Hallelujah” or “alleluia” which actually means Praise the Lord.
He said the show titled “The Backbencher” that was aired on the Christmas Eve this year has very deliberately and mischievously grievously hurt the sentiments of Christian community of India and the world over.
He said, “It was painful that people of the stature of Raveena, Farah and Bharti who are considered to be the role models would stoop to such depths as passing lewd and vulgar statements and comments about “hallelujah”.
He appealed to Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant to immediately approach the Centre and particularly the Union Ministry for Information and Broadcasting and Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to take action against the producers, promoters, sponsors and artistes of the show.
He said stringent action would act as a strong deterrent to the people aiming at hurting the religious sentiments of any community.
