PANJIM: The newly appointed State-level disciplinary committee of the Congress party at its first meeting on Monday took stock of the complaints received against their senior leaders and block committees for being involved in anti-party activities, during the recently held Lok Sabha election.
The seven-member committee that met Sunday evening was attended by all members including Leader of Opposition Pratapsing Rane.
“Today was just an introductory meeting. We took stock of all the complaints that we have received so far,” Committee chairman and Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president John Fernandes said.
Refusing to disclose any details of the meeting, Fernandes said that action would be taken as per the Congress constitution and the media would be informed about it. “Currently, we are holding closed door meetings,” he stated.
Party has already announced to issue show cause notice to its senior leader and North Goa candidate Ravi Naik for his statement against outgoing Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.
The inquiry committee is also supposed to probe party MLA Mauvin Godinho and Goa Pradesh Youth Congress Committee President Valanka Alemao’s conduct as they allegedly refrained from canvassing for the party candidate during Lok Sabha polls.
Former MP Francisco Sardinha, who was denied ticket by the party, could also be under the scanner for anti-party activities, along with MLA Atanasio Babush Monserrate, who had publicly admitted that he did not work for Congress’ official candidate Ravi Naik.
