Cong fears ‘immenent dissolution’ of assembly

Panjim: Expressing shock over the curtailed three-day session of the Assembly and a 5-month Vote on Account, the Congress Legislative Party on Tuesday pondered whether the government intended to go forward with the dissolution of the House.
Addressing media after the CLP meeting, Opposition leader Chandrakant Kavlekar flayed the government for the shortest session.
“Entire last year there was just 16 days business in the House. This year too they (govt) have started the year with just 3-day session,” said Kavlekar.
Stating that there would be no time to discuss important issues, Kavlekar said the three-day Assembly session will begin on January 29 with the address of Governor Mridula Sinha.
“There would be just two days of business and that too on one day the government will take vote-on-account for five months. We feel, they may want to dissolve the assembly,” Kavlekar said in the presence of Goa Pradesh Congress Committee chief Girish Chodankar.
Pointing to the past, Kavlekar said the government in the past has adopted the route of immature dissolution of the Assembly.
He said during the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting held on Monday, he had raised the issue of this curtailed session.
“However, CM assured us that the next session would be at least 18 to 20 days” he said adding “We have asked the CM to specify the dates for the next session. We can’t just go by his words,” he said.
Kavlekar said that he has demanded that the assembly sessions should be lengthier.
“The CM told us that he will call for next session immediately. We will be writing to the CM, asking him for the dates of next Assembly,” Kavlekar stated.
