PANJIM: Former MLA Aleixo Sequeira told the people that only Congress has given the people development and schemes in the State and that all the development done in the state was done only by the Congress.
Addressing a well-attended meeting in Nuvem, he said that Congress has a secular and developmental agenda unlike the BJP who represented communalism not just in the State but in the country as well. He said that its time for people not to be influenced by the divisive tactics of leaders who are supporting the BJP for personal gains but to stay united and support Reginaldo who was a clean and young face.
Reginaldo thanked the people for coming out in his support and said that this unity should always be maintained to protect the interests of Goans. He explained his agenda and the issues he would raise in the Parliament and assured to fulfill all the points in his agenda.
Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai said that a daily quoted the CM saying minorities will not only get equal status but also flourish under the NDA rule, this being a manifestation that the minorities do not enjoy an equal status in the State for the past two years.
He questioned whether the two GVP MLAs who are also from the minority, enjoy special or equal status as compared to the MGP who has three MLAs, two of which are ministers.
When 34% of the minorities have given BJP a mandate to govern the state, why no representation has been given to them in this election, he asked.
He further said that Mauvin, Churchill and Sardinha are only attacking the Congress and not the BJP, and asked whether this is not co-ordination by the dirty tricks department of the BJP.
Sardesai said that when he being a Hindu is standing up for Goemkarponn-Inclusiveness, in spite being independent is standing with Reginaldo who is a Catholic MLA when all other Catholic MLAs are running to the BJP.
He questioned their motive behind this and asked whether it was politics of package.
Marcus D’Souza, former deputy Sarpanch of Majorda, said that BJP and local MLA Pacheco are both fooling the people of Nuvem in the name of development. He said that people should not pay heed to their false claims and support Reginaldo.
Lastly, ZP member Wilfred D’Sa appealed to the electorate to vote for the Congress to safeguard the interest of the minorities and assured Reginaldo of all the support.
Present at the meeting were Congress leader Saifulla Khan and other elected members of the panchayats.
