Cong hatched conspiracy against me: Parrikar
HERALD REPORTER
PANJIM, FEB 25: Leader of Opposition Manohar Parrikar today charged the Congress of hatching a conspiracy against him by asking the Central Bureau of Investigation to investigate into the alleged irregularities in developing infrastructure for IFFI 2004.
Interacting with reporters, at his secretariat chamber, a relieved Parrikar said “I always knew that nothing would come out of the investigation as I have done nothing wrong.”
“The good news is that I can now go and watch movies at Inox, as I had decided not to visit the place until I am absolved of all charges,” he stated.
Terming the charges made against him as farce, Parrikar said, “the case was first handed over to CBI in 2005 after a cabinet decision without naming anyone in the case, it was a general investigation. However the CBI was on the verge of closing the case due to lack of evidence the very next year.”
“…but the Congress leaders, including General Secretary Margaret Alva did not want the case to be closed just ahead of the assembly elections in 2007 as it would be embarrassing for them to close it ahead of elections,” he said.
“Therefore they connived and worked out a conspiracy and asked Mauvin Godinho to file an FIR in Panjim Police Station in my name and then handed it over to the CBI,” he said adding that the case filed by Godinho was purely on the basis of CAG report.
“Godinho cited the CAG report as evidence in his case but one must know that CAG never mentions my name it only makes observations. Only criminal investigation can name any person of swindling money.”
“Now if you see the CAG itself has dropped 14 out of 21 paras they had made in the report,” he said.
Taking a dig at the CBI for dragging the case so long, he said, “The CBI is also hand in glove with the Congress in this conspiracy.”
Terming that the infrastructure developed, during his tenure, for IFFI have paid themselves off, Parrikar said, “today Inox is the only project which is paying back the State government.”
