MARGAO: Saying that the 2014 Lok Sabha polls are likely to be held in March-April, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Subhash Shirodkar on Sunday said all questions whether the Congress would contest both the Lok Sabha seats or in alliance with NCP would be decided by the High command after the Assembly polls in the four states.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the Congress workers meeting at Barcem this evening, Shirodkar said that all questions pertaining to the alliance with the NCP vis-à-vis the 2014 Lok Sabha polls would be decided by the party High Command. He also said that the High Command would take a call on the selection of candidates.
In his address, South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha lashed out at the State government for its various sins of omission and commission. He came down heavily on the government for its promise on ‘zero tolerance’, saying “what the state witnessed over the last two years was only hero tolerance and one man show by the chief minister.”
He described the Parrikar government as a government of shortages, referring to the shortage of construction materials such as sand, laterite stones. “This government is anti-poor. It only gives assurances,” he said.
Taking on Narendra Modi, Sardinha said that the he has promised to do magic after assuming the office of PM, but pointed out that Gujarat has been way behind several other Indian states in development front. “What magic is Modi promising to the people of the country when he could not deliver to the people of Gujarat?” he questioned.
The MP pointed out that people, irrespective of all religions, are yeaning for peace and brotherhood in the country.
, adding that people of the country have already begun to question whether Modi would be able to keep the country together.
Quepem MLA Babu Kavlekar took pot shots at the BJP government for its promise of zero tolerance on corruption, saying the people of Goa by now are aware of the level of corruption in the State under the Parrikar dispensation.
