PANJIM: As a part of its nationwide ‘Save Democracy-Save Constitution’ protests against Narendra Modi-led government, the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) on Thursday held peaceful demonstration near Raj Bhavan, seeking intervention of President of India Ram Nath Kovind against the anti-democratic and anti-constitutional acts of the Centre in toppling elected State governments.
In a memorandum submitted to President of India, via Governor of Goa Satya Pal Malik, the GPCC appealed for necessary cognizance of the illegal, undemocratic, untoward and unconstitutional actions of the BJP, under the aegis of the Central Government.
“India is passing through a grave calamity, the COVID-19 pandemic in tandem with an economic disaster on one hand and Chinese aggression on our boundaries on the other hand. At this juncture, it is the Constitutional and moral duty of the Government of India to utilise its resources and Constitutional machinery to tackle the grave situation at hand,” the memorandum stated.
“Unfortunately, the Government of India led by Narendra Modi and the ruling BJP are actively engaged in toppling democratically elected Governments across nation instead of focusing on the pandemic, economic revival and tackling China,” it added.
The Congress pointed out that BJP has already toppled the democratically elected state Governments in Manipur, Goa, Karnataka and MP and installed BJP Governments through backdoors, preposterously against the wishes and mandate of the people and now the attempts are made in Rajasthan.
“It goes without saying that a hazardous nexus of muscle power, money power and law enforcement agencies have been unconstitutionally employed to threaten and lure the MLAs to resign and join the BJP under duress,” the party charged.
The party said if the efforts of the BJP to capture power undemocratically and unconstitutionally are not contained timely, it will be a severe blow to our democracy and all of the hallowed tenets laid down in the Constitution.
“We request you to issue necessary instructions to the concerned to desist from destroying democracy and to safeguard the Constitution of India. The actions of the Governor of Rajasthan are also against the spirit of the Constitution as the esteemed office is feared to be working at the behest of the BJP,” it said.
