PANJIM: A delegation of Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) on Tuesday met Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai and demanded dismissal of the Sawant government for collapsing law and order in the State.
After meeting the Governor, Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat told reporters that there is steep rise in the criminal activities in the State. The incidents of rapes, murders, mysterious deaths, kidnappings, gang wars were occurring almost on daily basis. The BJP government headed by Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant has failed to provide safety and security to Goans.
Stating that the government has no moral right to remain in power, Kamat demanded that the Governor should take serious note of total breakdown of law and order situation in the State and dismiss the government immediately.
“The attack on a private doctor is an example of the complete failure of the administration. There is no control and anti-social elements are taking law in their hands as the government machinery is in deep slumber,” Kamat said.
“We have demanded that the Governor must take serious note of the collapse of law and order in the State and dismiss the government led by Chief Minister Sawant,” said GPCC President Girish Chodankar.
Aleixo Sequeira said that the people of Goa are living under threat and fear and that the BJP government has failed to provide security to the citizens.
In the four-page memorandum submitted to the Governor, the Congress has listed various incidents reported in the State, which only shows that there is no fear in the minds of the people about the police and the government. The anti-social elements have become emboldened and feel that Goa is now a criminal destination.
The Opposition party alleged that the government did not take any corrective measures to control the criminal activities in Goa after coming to power and encouraged criminal mafia, drug mafia and beggar mafia in the State, which has dented the image of the peaceful State.
The memorandum has stated that all these incidents prove that Goa is now become a criminal hub and that surprisingly Sawant has maintained a conspicuous silence on the recent incidents. The delegation was led by GPCC President Girish Chodankar.
