MARGAO: Curtorim Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco has written to the chief minister, chief secretary and director general of police on the non-fulfillment of the assurance given by the former chief minister late Manohar Parrikar on the floor of the House that casinos would be removed from River Mandovi.
“As a public representative, it pains me that the successive BJP State governments for the past eight years do not assign any sanctity to the assurances given on the floor of the House of the Legislative assembly. The assurances are only meant to fool innocent Goemkars who are gullible by nature,” Reginaldo wrote in his letter.
Reginaldo informed that it is a very disgraceful sight to see across Goa  including Panjim, prominent places, and various entry and exit points of the State’s border, that Goa police barricades are ‘shamelessly decorated’ with Casino advertisement.
“Why does Goa require casino advertisements on Goa police barricades? Are government departments including the police surviving at a begging level, where it requires advertisement from casinos, the notorious gambling industry? Reginaldo questioned.
“I would also like to remind your good self that late Parrikar when he was the then leader of Opposition had led a morcha on May 21, 2008 of BJP activists outside the office of the casino at Mandovi River in Panjim demanding removal of casinos from Goa. Sad to state that all the successive BJP governments since March 9, 2012 till date have not at all fulfilled Parrikar’s solemn promise given to the people of Goa,” Reginaldo wrote.
