MARGAO: Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, while pointing out that the insurance companies have fixed a very high premium for vehicles in Goa, urged the chief minister to prevail upon the insurance companies to reduce the premium the same way he has reduced the road tax by 50 per cent.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and copy marked to Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho, Aleixo pointed out that it is becoming difficult for the vehicle owners to pay the high premium fixed by insurance companies and hence they are going through difficulties.
He said, “The worst affected are those who hire their vehicles by way of self employment as they do not have much business because of slack tourism season, the cost of oil and lubricants has spiralled up and besides they have to pay higher installments for the loans taken and added to that the increased insurance premium is making life difficult.”
He appealed to the chief minister to write to the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India which is based in Telangana about this problem faced by Goans.
