MARGAO: South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha on Friday reiterated his demand to replace Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Girish Chodankar and to appoint a competent person to steer the party in the upcoming Assembly elections.
Addressing a press conference at Margao, Sardinha said that Chodankar should be immediately replaced and somebody who can take the Congress party flag forward be appointed. He said that Congress well wishers have already urged the High Command to change the guard in the State ahead of the ensuing polls.
“All Congress lovers have brought to the notice of party leaders that this man (Girish Chodankar) never won an election. This man, during his period many party leaders resigned from the party. So, please remove him,” Sardinha said.
The former Chief Minister said that the imposing of the National Security Act (NSA) in the South Goa district is to create fear amongst the people. However, the government must not forget that it is the right of the people to open the eyes of the government and they will continue to do so, he added.
The MP said that the State-level curfew has been imposed in the wake of spike in COVID-19 infected cases and to prevent the spread of Coronavirus.
“We must remember that initially people at the village-level decided to go for lockdown and thereafter the government imposed the curfew in the State,” he said.
Sardinha slammed the government for carrying out the work of laying sewer lines at Colva during monsoon and causing inconvenience to the motorists and villagers.
“I want to tell this government to please open the eyes and as an MP want to urge them to do such work in the dry season and not during the rainy season,” he said adding that the people of Goa had not given their mandate to the BJP.
