Cong releases names of 5 candidates

PANJIM: The Congress on Thursday decided to field former bureaucrat Elvis Gomes from Panjim constituency even as the party released names of five more candidates in the Goa Assembly elections.

Former MLA Carlos Almeida will contest from Vasco, Anthony `Tony’ Dias from Benaulim and Amit Patkar from Curchorem and Borim panchayat member Tukaram Borkar from Shiroda.

With this sixth list, the Congress announced names of 36 candidates and are yet to finalise candidate for Sanvordem seat. Three seats have been allotted to the regional Goa Forward Party (GFP) following pre-poll alliance between the two parties.   The party decided to field Gomes since he had served as the CCP commissioner in the past. Carlos Almeida, a two-time BJP MLA had joined Congress last month while, Tony Dias had quit Trinamool Congress Party (TMC) on Tuesday.
