Cong resolves to strengthen party after defections

PANJIM: The opposition Congress party has resolved to strengthen the organisation in the backdrop of defection by eight MLAs.

Addressing a press conference at the Congress House, All India Congress Committee (AICC) Goa incharge Dinesh Gundu Rao on Saturday said, “We suffered a setback following defection by our eight MLAs. They betrayed the party for their selfish gains. We have to re-establish the party and we have a plan of action for next two months and we will win back the trust of people.”

Rao claimed that the Congress party has not betrayed the people of Goa and it was individuals who betrayed the people for their selfish gains even after swearing before God and they will have to answer to the people. He alleged that the BJP was using huge resources to divide and split political parties to remain in power.

Rao said that the all 40 Block Congress Committees will be reconstituted in consultation with the general secretaries incharge of Assembly segments. GPCC president Amit Patkar, Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao and other office-bearers will visit all the constituencies.  The party leaders will take up various issues concerning the people of Goa, he said.

Rao said that soon after culmination of the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ started by AICC leader Rahul Gandhi, the Congress will launch ‘Haath Se Haath Jodo Abhiyan Yatra’ across the country from January 26, 2023. This campaign will run for two months wherein the Congress leaders and workers will highlight the failures of the BJP government on all fronts.
