PANJIM: Opposition Leader Digambar Kamat on Sunday led the Congress attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government at the Centre on the fourth anniversary of demonetisation.
Addressing a press conference at the party head office in Panjim, Kamat said PM’s assurance of a corruption free country has faced a setback while several vulnerable sections have suffered.
“We were told that several thousand crores of black money will be flushed out but thereafter, the figures indicated that there was no black money. So where is the black money and its elimination from the system,” he questioned while addressing the briefing in the presence of Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Girish Chodankar, Sankalp Amonkar and Varad Mardolkar.
The Margao MLA said demonetisation instead paralysed the real estate industry and brought unemployment on a large scale.
“Demonetisation was supposed to end terrorism but its state is the same. Who has benefited and who has faced losses? I have witnessed that many genuine people have faced hardship owing to this decision. The vulnerable sections were the most affected among others,” he stated.
The party claims that repercussions of the four-year-old decision are still being suffered in the country.
Chodankar lamented that the PM has failed the economy and the country with “your one action.”
Commenting on the FIR into a complaint of threat and abusive messages to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Chodankar said the party has often been claiming that Goa is witnessing collapse of law and order.
“If the threat is true, then law and order is a failure. When such an incident can happen with the CM, then you know how much law and order has collapsed. Safety is a question,” he said and sought to know the delay in tracking prime conspirators into Margao jeweller and Torda activist’s murders.
