Cong slams Ajgaonkar for ‘failing’ to develop Pernem

PERNEM: Deputy Chief Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar has been criticised for failing to develop Pernem despite representing the constituency as MLA for over 20 years.

“Ajgaonkar have been in power for four terms. However, he failed to develop Pernem. The roads, the health facilities and transport system in Pernem are in very a sad state,” Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress President Pratima Coutinho said.

She launched the scathing attack on the minister when she visited Pernem on Tuesday. During her visit, people complained to her about the problems they are facing.

“There is no health facilities for the people staying in the villages along the highway. There is no transport facilities for the people after 7 pm; the Pernem bus stand was inaugurated three times, but till now it is not fully opened for the public,” Coutinho highlighted.

“There are no streetlights and traffic signals on the main junctions and the roads are narrow. Even after serval requests the MVR company and authorities failed to take precautionary measures to prevent accidents,” Coutinho alleged.

“The plight of people of Pernem is overwhelming; the motorists are forced to commute on the pathetic highway. Heavy trucks, interstate buses and public transports move on the highway day and night. Therefore, streetlights and signals are need of the hour on the highway,” Coutinho emphsised.

There is need to have an underpass on the Volpya junction since this junction connects five villages. “My impression is the local MLA does not want the underpass at the location and wants more and more people to die,” she alleged.
