Cong slams CM over 2050 green energy promises

MARGAO: Reacting to the statement made by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant that Goa will be transformed as a renewable energy hub by 2050, Leader of Opposition (LoP) Yuri Alemao exposed the BJP government’s poor performance on producing renewable and green energy and showed their past records to prove this.

“With dismal past record, it is better not to speak about achieving the 100 per cent renewable energy target with 15,000 jobs by 2050. Failed BJP government is day dreaming when Goans are facing nightmares of frequent power cuts and proposed hike in power tariffs,” said Alemao.

“The facts and figures from my Legislative Assembly Questions Reply reveal that Goa achieved only 33.344 MW of Solar Power Energy till November 30, 2022 to meet the target of 358 MW set to achieve national cumulative target of 175 GW. Now, the Chief Minister sets a new target of 150 MW in next two years with 500 jobs which is completely unrealistic,” the Congress leader added.

“I suspect that the government has deliberately opted for a ‘go slow’ approach on solar and renewable energy to facilitate the destructive Tamnar Project. If the government invests even half the money of Tamnar Project cost on renewable energy generation in Goa, it will cater to meet power consumption needs on the entire Goa,” Alemao claimed.

“There is no point in providing lip service by making big announcements at the events. The government must prepare an action plan to achieve the target of solar and renewable energy generation in the State. The government has also failed to create awareness about the same,” the LoP added.

“The government stopped the subsidy scheme for buying electric vehicles. This act shows that they are not serious on green energy. If the government has money to spend on events, why can’t they give subsidies on electric vehicles?” Alemao questioned.
