Cong slams govt for arresting peaceful protestors

MARGAO: Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat has criticised the government for arresting the peaceful protesting Congress workers outside Inox, Panjim, on Wednesday.
He said that the letter given by Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) Prakash  Javdekar is just a farce and that there is no mention regarding the withdrawal of Environment Clearance (EC) given to Karnataka.
Kamat said that BJP government is doing politics over Mhadei water.
He said that they were protesting in a democratic way and he strongly condemned the government’s action in arresting Congress President Girish Chodankar, Youth President Varad Mardolkar and other Office bearers using the police force for protesting against the distrust committed by BJP Central Minister Javadekar.
He also demanded that the protestors who were arrested and taken to unknown location be released immediately as they were only attempting to show the importance of Mhadei to Goa to the minister.
“The government has imposed Section 144 on the backdrop of Ayodhya verdict but is demolishing the protests to protect Mhadei by continuing the imposition of the section,” said Kamat.
Kamat has demanded that the Chief Minister immediately withdraws Section 144 in the State and also release the arrested persons immediately.
