Cong slams govt for waking up late to Meat Complex problem

Minority Cell accuses govt of promoting only some Muslims and their business interests

MARGAO: The Goa Pradesh Congress Minority Cell has slammed the government for “waking up to the Goa Meat Complex problem only on the eve of Eid celebrations.”
Besides, the Minority Cell accused the government of promoting only some Muslims and their business interests.
Briefing media persons, Vice-Chairman of the Cell Kalim Khan also alleged that people with criminal antecedents have been appointed on the Hospital Visiting committees and asked the government in general and the health minister in particular to produce police clearance certificates of all people appointed on these committees.
“I give the authorities one month time to produce these police clearance certificates, otherwise I shall name the persons with criminal background who have been appointed on the hospital visiting committees,” he said.
Curchorem Block Chairman Ali Shaikh accused Bashir Ahmed to be an agent of the BJP and further alleged that the present government is permitting only a few Muslims who are close to them, to get beef from outside the State.
“We fail to understand why the Goa Meat Complex is not running continuously given the fact that nearly 20 tonnes of beef is sold in Goa every day,” he said while also wondering why the government is not providing subsidised bulls to the meat vendors that could be slaughtered at the meat complex.
He demanded that the government appoint permanent staff for the meat complex so that the machinery can be kept serviced instead of trying to operate it only at the time of Eid when the demand goes up.
Ali also accused the government of tacitly supporting the NGOs causing hardships for them while getting beef from Karnataka to Goa and added that the attacks are more during the festive season and demanded that the government immediately give the protection while transporting beef.
The minority cell also demanded immediate relief to the people visiting the Sub-Registrar’s office at Matanhy Saldanha Administrative Complex where they are made to spend hours because of lack of staff and demanded immediate recruitment of staff.
