PANJIM: The ongoing All India Hindu Convention has come under severe criticism from the Congress party for what it called ‘malicious and spiteful speeches’.

Taking a dig at Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, the party said he is absorbed in hosting senior party leaders to Goa rather than ensure that Hindu outfits don’t trigger communal disharmony.

BJP’s national executive meeting incidentally coincides with the Hindu Convention though both events are taking place at separate locations.

“Parrikar has soft corner for the Sangh Parivar fundamentalists. It is shocking and disgusting for tranquil Goa and peace loving Goans that venomous speeches against religious minorities are alleged to have been made at the convention,” CLP spokesman Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco told reporters at a briefing Saturday.

The party has taken objection to a statement made by a speaker from Kerala on June 6 wherein he is quoted as saying that a “Hindu Nation would be established on bodies of other religions. Other than these people no other religion would be in India.”

The Curtorim MLA called on the government to book a case against the Kerala speaker for attempting to create communal tension in the otherwise peaceful State of Goa.
