MARGAO: Students will have to wait till Monday to know their fate over admissions to Chowgule higher secondary school with the management maintaining a stoic silence over the merit list and the number of admissions for the science stream.
While the total number of admissions to the higher secondary school increased to 375 on Sunday, with over 250 students applying for XI science, the management was unclear how many students will finally get admissions in the higher secondary.
Principal R V Gaonkar told Herald that the merit list will be finalised and displayed on Monday, and was non-committal how many students will be admitted to the Science stream this academic year. “This question will be decided after going through the mark sheets of the students and their percentage. Only those students who fall within the merit list will be eligible for admissions,” he asserted.
Meanwhile, Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardessai said the Chowgule higher secondary issue demonstrates the total lack of governance and transparency of the present government. He said the designs of the management to restrict XI science students to 130 this year too is against the stand of the government, which had projected that the intake would be 220 ~ 10 per cent more than the normal strength. “The CM is evidently fooling around with the future of 90 students this year,” he added.
“It is a mystery as to why an agitation was organised by the defeated local BJP candidate a few days back,” he asked, adding that the Education Department should also explain how unauthorised private individuals were part of the process to distribute forms at the Education Department with Dy CM Francis D’Souza.
