PANJIM: Congress leaders and workers staged a silent protest at Azad Maidan on Tuesday seeking justice for the Hathras girl who died after she was allegedly gang-raped.
The protest led by party president Girish Chodankar and Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat was also against growing atrocities against women across the country and failure of BJP government to curb it.
The Congress workers alleged that while the entire nation is grieving about the gruesome rape and murder incident in Hathras, the insensitive, anti-Dalit and anti-women BJP government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is protecting the rapists and murderers.
“This is the culture of BJP which promotes the agenda of protecting rapist mafia, terrorist mafia, murder mafia, dacoits mafia, drug mafia, murderers mafia, beggars mafia, corruption mafia all across the Country,” charged Chodankar.
He further demanded that justice must be given to the Hathras victim and her family. Later speaking Kamat said that today the BJP is giving slogan of
“Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao”, but going by the unfortunate event of burning the body of the young girl in the night without taking consent of her family, people will now be compelled to add one more word to it.
“I am feeling completely divested to hear the chronology of events in the gruesome rape and murder of the young girl,” he said as complimented their leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi who visited the grieving family. Former minister Sangeeta Parab said that the BJP is giving slogan of “Beti Bachao” but in BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh there are repeated incidents of rape and atrocities against women.
“Today the women in the country are completely feeling unsafe under Modi’s BJP rule,” she said.
