PANJIM: The Congress Pradesh Election Committee (PEC) on Tuesday began the process of selection of candidates for the 2022 Assembly elections, by first determining the criteria for selection of candidates.
After chairing the first PEC meeting, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Girish Chodankar said that the maiden meeting discussed the process of selection of candidates which will start from November 26 and 27 for candidates for 20 constituencies from South Goa district. Similarly, the block Congress committees from North Goa district will meet on November 28 and December 1 to recommend names of candidates. AICC Goa observer Prakash Rathod will be present for these meetings.
Chodankar said that the names of candidates recommended by the block Congress committees will be forwarded to the District Congress Committees, who will meet on November 29 to shortlist the names. The District Congress Committees will submit the list of shortlisted candidates to the PEC, which will meet again on November 30 and submit the list it to the AICC Screening Committee headed by MP Rajani Patil, who will meet in Goa on December 3 and 4, to select the candidates.
AICC Goa desk in-charge Dinesh Rao said that the party will select the best candidates based on social justice and equality and will also give more representation for women and youth. He reiterated the criteria of loyalty to the party connect to people of the block, good reputation and ability to win the hearts of people and election.
