PANJIM: The Congress party on Monday submitted a 27-point chargesheet against Manohar Parrikar led BJP government which has completed 27 months in office, to Governor Om Prakash Kohli, accusing the BJP of misguiding the public to come to power and then carrying on with the same things that it accused the previous Congress government of.
However, even as the Opposition fired onto the streets after two years, opposing the functioning of government, the Leader of Opposition Pratapsing Rane surprisingly felt that this should not have been done.
“I don’t feel that there was any need for such protest as the government is already castigated by party MLAs in the Assembly.”
Goa Pradesh Congress committee (PCC) president John Fernandes countered Rane saying “That’s his personal opinion …. The decision was taken during the PCC convention chaired by Digvijay Singh, of which Rane was also part and he should have raised his objection at that time… this was a party decision and I am the party chief and not Rane…he is a leader of one of the frontal organization of the party.”
The Congress morcha from ACDIL School to Sanjay School vicinity on the outskirts of the Goa Assembly Monday morning saw presence of only party vice president Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco from among Congress MLAs, who submitted the chargesheet to Legislative Assembly Speaker Rajendra Arlekar. Addressing media persons, Fernandes said that all the MLAs were invited for the morcha however only our vice president turned up.
Fernandes said that the chargesheet has highlighted how the constitutional machinery in the State has collapsed. “Chief Minister is equally responsible for every action of his ministers and bureaucrats, as it is a collective cabinet,” he said.
Meanwhile the Congress has through its chargesheet urged the Governor and Speaker to remove the word “Hindu Nation” from the Assembly records as it is unconstitutional. “The hidden agenda of BJP should not be allowed to run riot in Goa,” Fernandes said.
The Congress chargesheet highlights failure of government on various fronts including failure to notify the Regional Plan 2021, appointment of Lokayukta, withdrawal of notification pertaining to Special Marriage Act 1954 which seeks to dilute the Common Civil Code, garbage problem, rampant unemployment, injustice to the SCs and STs and sending back of Rs 256 crore to the Centre. It also speaks about the recent government order where tiatrists were asked to give undertaking on not to attack ministers in their performances.
