Cong takes a dig at Marcaim MLA’s say on Assembly polls

MARGAO: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Girish Chodankar on Saturday took strong objection to MGP leader Sudin Dhavalikar’s statement regarding his recommendation to postpone the 2022 Assembly elections.

He said that it is shocking to read the statement of Marcaim MGP MLA regarding the postponement of elections in the State with a recommendation to give an extension to the current government or imposition of the President’s Rule.

“Dhavalikar is a senior legislator and should know the Constitution well. There is no provision in the Constitution to give extension to any government,” stated Girish.

“The Marcaim MLA must have got goose bumps after BJP leader Dr Subramaniam Swamy recommended the name of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari for COVID Management to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, citing the failure of the Prime Minister’s Office in the handling of COVID in India. Giving extension to the most insensitive, failed and irresponsible BJP government under defective Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant will not only be unconstitutional but criminal,” claimed Congress president.

He also said that the BJP governments at the Centre as well as the States have lost moral and ethical right to continue in power. People are cursing BJP governments all across the nation for their failure to handle COVID and the economy. Surprisingly, MGP MLA is daydreaming of giving them an extension.

“Is this an indication of Dhavalikar now getting suffocated for remaining out of power for long and wants Pramod Sawant to provide him with a breathing machine of a lucrative portfolio in the ministry?,” questioned Girish.

He said they don’t need a scientist to analyse the timing of the statement made by Dhavalikar. Political opportunism is reflecting in his statement which has exposed his greed for power.
