PANJIM: Congress has now targeted its former party men – Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar and MLA Atanasio (Babush) Monserrate.
Congress President Girish Chodankar, citing a letter that has been forwarded on whatsapp, by an alleged aggrieved land developer to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and various investigation agencies over alleged corruption in the Town & Country Planning (TCP) Department, has demanded an investigation into it.
“The TCP’s functioning under the present minister is dubious. The land developer’s letter to PM, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and the investigation agencies explains the level of corruption and land mafia operating in the State. The CM should probe into the allegations to ascertain the truth,” the party president said at a press conference on Wednesday.
Chodankar was referring to an extensive letter by a New Delhi-based builder who owns two properties in Goa.
On another issue, the party has slammed Panjim MLA Atanasio (Babush) Monserrate for failing to live up to his promise of shifting the off shore casinos from River Mandovi. Chodankar reminded Monserrate of his Panjim by-poll promise to remove the casinos from the river within 100 days of being elected as the Panjim MLA.
Monserrate had contested the by-poll for Panjim as a Congress candidate and defeated two-time MLA Siddhart Kunkalienkar. However, he along with nine others switched over to BJP in a dramatic turn of events just days before the monsoon session of the Legislative Assembly in July.
